Knock on Wood: Clogs are Hot for Summer 2017

Chanel Wood Slides

Clogs are totally hot for summer 2017, once known as a folksy shoe worn by gardeners and smurfs, the clog has come a long way from its humble orthopedic foot care beginnings.

This iconic style was originally made famous in the late 1960s by Dr. Scholls, the sandal’s raised toe crest and contoured sole encourage natural gripping and flexing when walking. Perfectly simple, playfully chic, and crafted in wood to last through the years, the Original Exercise Sandals were an unexpected fashion hit and has remained a feminine favorite for decades.

According to well known fashion lore: Clogs come back in style every seven years.  The last time they made a huge showing was in the 2011 shows (which happened in 2010 so get out your calculators folks… was 7 years ago) they remained front and center the whole year once fashion darling Alexa Chung adopted them as her go to style.  Then last year we got a sneak peek of the trend rearing its head again in fur lined versions at Gucci and Fendi.

Thanks to the revival of 1970s style and all things boho, clogs have made their way into the summer 2017 collections of just about EVERYONE. From Saint Laurent’s studded prints to Chloe’s organic modernist take, clogs have been given a cool fashion update for spring that is anything but folksy.

Effortlessly chic, easy to wear and oh so comfy they will give your feet a much needed summer vacation.

Whether you choose to rock them in the form of slides, sky high platforms, strappy sandals or slip-on mules there is no disputing that wood soles are hot hot hot this season and don’t forget to keep ahold of them when the season ends because the trend will be back again in 7 years, hello Spring/Summer 2024.

Bold Tropical Print Trend

Bold Tropical Print Trend

Tropical prints are taking over this summer in a bold explosion of color and a lush mix of flora and fauna.

Women want to look and feel sexy and feminine while having fun in the sun.  We want color and daring but in the most effortless way possible. This is what the bold tropical print trend is all about.

Not only does it remind you of an exotic getaway, tropical prints also add instant style and fun to even the simplest outfits.

Go head-to-toe tropical in a dress, romper or jumper or scale it back by wearing just one tropical print piece paired with a neutral. If you’re feeling bold, experiment with mixing tropical prints with other prints. Fruits, vegetables, floral, animal prints and stripes all look amazing against a tropical pattern.  If you’re hoping to find a more subtle way to incorporate the look into your current wardrobe, add a pop of print with patterned shoes or accessories — anything goes with this wild trend!

My Summer Must Have

My Summer Must Have

I’ve said it before and I’m sure next year at this same time I’ll be saying it again.  I, Christie, am not a summer clothing kind of gal.

I want jackets, I want boots, I want layers!  Summer clothing just doesn’t get me. Sigh.

It has hit full sweltering hotter than hot temps here in Vegas.  Blog photos have to be taken at either 7am or 7pm. Nothing in between unless I want to melt like the Wicked Witch of the West!

It seems like just last week I was rockin’ my denim jacket in perfect 80 degree weather and now…. ugh well you get the point.

Every season, especially during the summer months, we all hope to find that one piece that will become the most wearable thing in our closet and last week I found my summer “must-have” at Old Navy.

This top is like finding a summer unicorn:  It is super chic, light and airy, fits like a dream, the band around the top is thick enough that it won’t do that annoying pop up on your shoulders thing PLUS it retails for a price point that makes you want to buy two (or in my case FOUR- I got it in Black, White, Orange and Striped).

In fact this week the black, white and orange styles are all marked down to just $18!  Holla!

I have already worn this top to work, at an event, for blog photos- and I’ve only had it a week!  Who knows, with this top I may just start to actually like summer clothing!

Stylist Tip:  If bra straps and the thought of wearing an uncomfortable strapless bra have been the only things holding you back from rockin’ an off the shoulder top this season try pairing this breezy summer style with a strapless, seamless bandeau.  So comfortable and easy to wear yet with enough support to keep everything in it’s place.

Summer's Prickly Cactus Print Trend

Cactus Print Trend

Every summer there is a graphic print that comes along and dominates the season, this year its the prickly but lovable cactus print.

I have to admit I think the cactus print trend is positively succulent!   Conjuring up images of dreamy desert landscapes old westerns and weekend road trips, there is something so perfectly summer about it.

A long-time staple of desert life, this season the cactus has been given a new lease in the form of fun graphics, cartoon-esque drawings, sequins and photo prints.  Emblazoned on everything from casual t-shirts to handbags, shoes and flowy boho maxi’s you can pair this prickly print with millennial pinks, washes of green, vibrant blues and desert flower esc purples or try mixing your cactus print with gingham or other desert botanical florals for a combo that’s riding off into the sunset worthy!

This awe-mazing M Missoni cactus skirt I’m wearing is my score of the season.  I love its Southwestern vibe and how perfectly it pairs with my GORGEOUS new Mulberry tote!  Isn’t the color of this bag to die for!
