L’Oréal Professionnel INOA and Square Salon

Our hair isn’t as young as it used to be.

Years upon years of styling tools and color processing can take its toll on our luscious locks.

As you know anytime you use a permanent ammonia based dye on your hair you are most likely creating some form of damage.  The process dries out your scalp and hair leaving it jagged and vulnerable to breakage.  Ammonia which is used to open the hair fiber and deliver the dye molecules is about as gentle as a UFC fighter in a china shop.

As an answer to the call of hair damaged women everywhere the experts at L’Oréal Professionnel  have created a game-changer for colored hair : INOA (Innovation No Ammonia).

..and you can revolutionize you hair right here in Las Vegas at Square Salon.

I sat down with stylist/colorist at Square Salon Liubov (Liubi) Rachmanina to get to the root of L’Oréal Professionnel INOA and protecting your hair from damage.

Q: What is INOA?

LR: INOA is the new generation of hair color.  It is the first thing I introduce new clients to when they come to the salon. Once you have seen this technology why would you use anything else?  It would be like going from a smartphone back to an old flip phone.  Back in the “old days” we did EVERYTHING with ammonia based color- which still exists- but does damage the hair.   INOA uses ODS (Oil Delivery System) it is a patent-pending technology that uses oil to maximize the haircolor process, providing 2x more lipid protection to the hair.  Classic haircolor that contains ammonia relies on water-based technology which dries out the hair and create breakage- oil nourishes the hair.  When hair is nourished the color stays longer and looks healthier.  with INOA there is no damage to the hair.

Q: Tell me about the types of hair damage.

LR: There are 2 types of hair damage: Mechanical and Permanent/Chemical.  Mechanical Damage comes from blow dryers, flat irons, curling irons and brushing.  Permanent/Chemical damage comes from color processing or straighteners.  It’s a 50/50 split.  Half of what happens to your hair is in the salon and the other half is what you do at home.

Q: Who should consider using INOA?

LR: INOA is great for everyone. Every age, every hair-type.  Whether you want to lift color or achieve vibrant color results.  Also, answering concerns of women 50+ with 70-100% grey/white hair is L’Oréal Professionnel INOA Supreme, an ammonia-free in-salon age-defying permanent haircolor.  Results are brighter with a natural looking taste of color to compliment skin tone, body & volume and multi-dimensional coverage.

Q: Since you began using INOA on your clients what is the biggest difference you see?

LR: My clients hair looks so much healthier and vibrant.  The hair color lasts longer because the hair is healthier.  Clients used to come for color touch-ups or gloss every 5 weeks now with INOA they come every 8 weeks!

Q: What should a client do at home to keep their hair healthy and avoid mechanical damage between visits to the salon?

LR: Washing, Conditioning, Brushing and Paying attention to heat tools.  Always wash twice and only lather from mid way down hair not at root.  Follow by conditioner.  If you have dry hair then apply conditioner at roots and if you have oily/limp hair then avoid conditioning at roots just apply to ends.  I recommend L’Oréal Professionnel INOAColor Care Shampoo, Conditioner and Masque that provides 5x more nutrition to extend the intensity and shine of your INOA-color results. When you brush wet hair brush gently with a wide tooth comb.  NEVER yank on hair.  When your hair is wet the cuticle is still open and vulnerable to mechanical damage.

During the blow-drying process pay special attention to the heat level you are using.  Course hair can stand stronger temperatures that fine hair. Make sure to use a heat protector like L’Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil Colour Glow Oil ($32.00 / LPSalons.com) that delivers smoothness and intense shine and contains UV Filters to protect color when styling with curling and flat irons.

Q: What should every woman be armed with when going to a salon?

LR: Knowledge and Questions.  Ask what your hair colorist is using on your hair. Does it contain Ammonia, what volume are they using?  What products? What kind of brushes?  I believe that today’s woman is much more educated about what goes into the products they use than women have been in the past. They research what is good and bad for their hair and shouldn’t be afraid to ask questions.
