My Mind on the Midi and the Midi on My Mind

Spring 2017 fashion has me so excited!

Who would have EVER thought you would hear me say that?  You all know I am a Fall layers kind of gal but the trends for Spring/Summer 2017 are whispering sweet nothings in my ear and they are oh so sweet.

One of my favorite trends this Spring is great for all body types, totally wearable and kind to those of us with maybe not so great legs, the Midi Dress.

This season both dresses and skirts are driven by midi silhouettes.  What does midi mean? It’s a length that lands anywhere past your knees but above the ankle.  It can be tight, flowy, A-line, printed, lace, leather, casual, evening, boho, edgy or ladylike– there is no limit to the midi.  It’s kind on hips and thighs and is a must-have piece for Spring.

Ok so you are short and the midi terrifies the bejesus out of you.  I have read articles from other fashion experts stating how shorties should beware of the midi but I totally disagree.   Midi dresses aren’t just for the tall. It’s all about the fit.

If you are petite in stature make sure that the midi you select doesn’t drown you in fabric.  Opt for a fitted style with a length that hits slightly above mid-calf – just under your knee – rather than true midi. This will help elongate your legs.

This particular midi dress has quickly become one of my fave’s because it’s so easy to wear.  It has a festival vibe but still looks polished and adds some much needed color to my wardrobe.

Hello new brunching partner!

Stylist Tip: The quickest way to up the chic factor of any dress is to ditch the self-belt (a belt that comes with a garment and is made of the same material as the garment).  Instead opt for a belt with texture or contrast to create visual interest.  The self-belt that came with this dress was a fabric sash that basically disappeared it didn’t really add any value to the look, by styling the dress with a woven belt it creates more of a waistline, breaks up the pattern and makes the entire look  feel more luxe.

What I’m Wearing: Chloe Leather T-strap Pumps | Etro Fringe-Trimmed Crossbody Bag | VIPme Blue Bohemian Chiffon Flare Midi Dress | Kate Spade Bangles
