Disney's Jungle Book

DisneysJungleBook

I was lucky enough to attend a preview screening of Disney’s The Jungle Book earlier this week.

A feel good, heart warming flick that will make you “Forget about your worries and your strife” ( lol I had to).

Directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johansson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.

The all-star cast also includes Lupita Nyong’o as the voice of the fiercely protective mother wolf Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as the voice of wolf pack’s alpha male Akela. “The Jungle Book” seamlessly blends live-action with photorealistic CGI animals and environments, using up-to-the-minute technology and storytelling techniques to immerse audiences in an enchanting and lush world.

I walked in not really knowing what to expect and to be honest, with a bit of a chip on my shoulder because The Jungle Book was one of my favorite  Disney’s flicks as a child.  I mean come on what kid doesn’t dream of literally being raised by wolves!

Oh John Favreau how I love you. The film has a realistic yet animated feel and is so true to the spirit of the original.  The visuals are so realistic that you forget these are CGI animals and that Mowgli (Neel Sethi) is the only live actor in the entire film!  Even Neel Sethi’s bouncy walk is true to the Mowgli of my childhood.

I was super excited that the film contains two iconic songs from the original animated film “Bare Necessities” and “I Wanna Be Like You”. My heart soared the second Bill Murray sang the first three bars of “Bare Necessities”.  Heart officially stolen.

A perfectly modernized fairy tale for a new generation.

Disney’s The Jungle Book opens nationwide on Friday April 15th.

So here is where I usually talk about the wardrobe but since Neel Sethi plays the entire film in basically a loin cloth accessorized with a hemp rope bracelet, today I’ll talk about two WILDLY fashionable Jungle Book inspired releases- KENZO Jungle Book Collection and Reebok Disney Jungle Book  Instapump Fury.

KENZO Jungle Book Collection

I am OBSESSED with this collection from cult fashion favorite KENZO.

The limited-edition collection combines original sketches from the Disney archives with KENZO’s signature bold patterns. “The silhouettes we chose for the garments and accessories were inspired by the new direction Disney has taken with the live-action movie,” said KENZO Creative Directors, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon. “There is a slight nod to jungle/safari elements (and even beautiful printed silk shorts directly inspired by Mowgli’s costume).” They feature two colorful prints incorporating the original drawings of the characters in the 1967 animated movie, culled from the Disney archives and Shere Khan replaces the tiger on Kenzo’s signature sweatshirts and tees!

The patterns, the colors, the animation and ummm KENZO!  I need to get my hands on these pieces NOW!

The limited-edition pieces for women and men are available at Kenzo stores, select department stores and online.

Stealing the style from two the films characters, Shere Khan and Kaa, Reebok gives the Instapump Fury a wild makeover. By using special textures and materials Reebok brings the story’s exotic nature to life. Black accents with a tiger print upper for ‘Shere Kahn’ and grey snake print details for ‘Kaa’ bring the style of each character to both shoes.

The Reebok Disney Jungle Book Instapump Fury is available in mens, womens and kids sizes at reebok.com
