Black, Blue and Balmain

Pairing Black and Blue

One of my favorite color combinations is Black and Blue.

There is something so rebelliously breaking-the-rules chic about the pairing.

Once upon a time there was a tried and true fashion rule that decreed the two shall NEVER be combined but over the past few years designers have thrown that “old school” way of thinking to the roadside and embraced how fantastic the two colors can look together.

The look is super easy to achieve. To start, try an all-black outfit with a navy accessory or vice versa—it will make the style rebellion less daunting. Pair a navy skirt or dress with black tights. Choose classic silhouettes and focus on texture to add depth and dimension. Mix lace with velvet or leather with silk, for example, to prevent the hues from bleeding together.

No matter how you combine it, the trick to pulling off the trend is to keep your navy truly navy — if it’s dangerously close to being black, it’ll just look like you got dressed in the dark.
